Making sport count
Maurice Leeser, Director of the KNWU, also sees great potential in the event: “The European BMX Freestyle Championships in Eindhoven are a fantastic opportunity to further put urban sports on the map. It is an Olympic discipline, and some of these talents may go on to qualify for LA 2028. The fact that they can showcase their skills on Dutch soil makes them perfect ambassadors for our sport.”
Creating social impact by pushing boundaries
The European BMX Freestyle Championships 2025 aim to deliver more than just a spectacular sporting event. The event also wants to encourage young people to push boundaries and take risks. BMX Freestyle provides the perfect platform for a social programme centred around the theme of pushing boundaries. In BMX Freestyle, having the courage to take risks is essential, whether that means trying a new trick or committing to a big jump. It is not only about daring to fall, but above all about having the courage to get back up again. Only by continuing to push your limits can you keep improving yourself. That is why, in the lead-up to and during the event, social programmes will be organised with this theme at their core.
Public-private partnership
The European BMX Freestyle Championships 2025 are a joint effort between public and private partners, supported by organisations including the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, BrabantSport, the Municipality of Eindhoven and the Province of North Brabant. Together, they aim to deliver a successful event that is more than just a championship: a meeting place for everyone with a passion for sport, urban culture and social development. Bas Maes, Provincial Executive for Sport in North Brabant, explains: “The Province of North Brabant sees elite sport as a source of inspiration for grassroots sport. Sport brings people together, inspires and empowers them. Together with the Municipality of Eindhoven and BrabantSport, we are proud to contribute to this special event.” Maes van Lanschot, Eindhoven’s Alderman for Sport, is also enthusiastic about the arrival of the European Championships: “Urban sports are one of Eindhoven’s strategic sports. I am delighted that we can host this top-level event at Area 51. The very best of BMX Freestyle promises spectacular stunts and will inspire people of all ages to get moving.”
About the European BMX Freestyle Championships
In and around Area 51, both men and women will compete in the Park and Flatland disciplines. In Park, it is all about jumps, flips and other tricks on a course with obstacles. In Flatland, riders battle for the gold medal on an obstacle-free surface, performing highly technical tricks. In both disciplines, technique, control and creativity are key, with performances assessed by the judges across a range of criteria.
